Anna-Lou “Annie” Leibovitz Photography Meets Art
Annie Leibovitz Photography has always been a favorite of mine. I started reading Rolling Stone magazine in my early teens, and it was Annie’s images that gave visual and art to the articles. This was long before the internet, youtube, etc. Our musical hero’s of the day didn’t get the visual exposure artists get today. We depended on photographers like Annie to give a backstage look at our rock heroes. Her ten years at Rolling Stone fed our needs.
It was during her stint with Rolling Stone that Annie developed her unique style of bold colors and unusual poses that caught the imagination of the people. Her photographs of celebrities were published on the cover of Rolling Stone. One of these covers carried my favorite Annie photo. An image of a nude John Lennon shown here cuddling his wife
Yoko, who was fully clothed. This would be one of the last pictures of Lennon. It was taken just a five hours before he was murdered.

In 1983, Annie left Rolling Stone and started her stint with Vanity Fair. Her photographs used on covers of this magazine are still remembered by people as most beautiful and stunning. One of the most famous and controversial of her photographs on the cover of this magazine was that of actress Demi Moore. Demi is pregnant and totally nude in this photo. Also, some very unique shots of Queen Elizabeth. Seen here.
During the 80’s Annie worked for several advertising campaigns. She ran the membership campaign for American Express during which she took stunning photos of many celebrities. She became the official photographer of the
Summer Olympics in 1996. She took some amazing photographs of athletes like Carl Lewis and Michael Johnson.
At the age of 65, Annie continues to be a highly successful photographer being in high demand because of her beautiful portraits.
